On The Subject Of Courage
Most of us have the experience of the change of seasons. As Summer grows late, there comes a day when the wind blows from a different direction and one can sense the change that's in the air. The day is still warm but the realization is there that Summer is just about over and Fall is here... and that means Winter is coming. . . . keep reading
What Happened To My Country?
Sooner or later the way you live your life boils down to how well the country you live in is doing; and it's measured in many different ways. Some look only at the economy, some look at general trends, some look at civil liberties and some just look at a matrix of their own choosing. No matter how you slice it, the U.S. is on the fast track to oblivion. Here are some "signposts" and observations on what is coming. . . . keep reading
Greed Is An Amazing Thing
There are many opportunities to get in trouble in this world, and greed has a way of increasing the opportunity for trouble by an order of magnitude. Moving overseas simply exposes you to more opportunities to get in trouble. Here's an example . . . keep reading
21st Century Cowboys
In our work with Americans moving abroad, we often wind up in discussions about their motives for leaving their country of birth. We've come to accept the view that American expatriates represent the "cowboys" of the 21st Century. Like it or not, outlook on life matters, and here's what we see from our vantage point far from the U.S. . . . keep reading
Avoiding Venezuelan Taxes
Leaving the US gets you a generous tax exemption for U.S. Federal Tax purposes, but being resident in Venezuela means that you acquire a tax liability in Venezuela. Fortunately this can be dealt with and most taxes can be avoided, but it has to be done correctly. Here's how to do it. . . . keep reading
The Latest Word On The Street
July 1, 2006
In Venezuela, quite frequently the local "grapevine" can tell you what's going to happen long before the government issues a press release. We also remind ourselves that no rumor is judged to be true until it's been officially denied. Here's what we're hearing right now. . . . keep reading
